The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automatic information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world.
Drupal is a both a low priced and powerful tool for collaboration via the world wide web. Due to both of these factors it is becoming increasingly popular with the research community.
At UCSF we use Drupal for many research related purposes.
